This piece was made by the hands of the Brothers of the Shadow.  The Brothers of the Shadow are a league all of their own, who use their magic for their own selfish purposes. Thus, their magic is notably dark.  This magic is super powerful and self-aggrandizing, but is usually at the cost of some other thing.  Think of the evil witch that is so old that if she can't find a human soul to feast on, she will shrivel up and die in her own misery.  So, you see these people are ultra-powerful because they need their power to survive. 
We got our hands on one of the ceremonial pieces.  This piece was used during a human sacrifice that allowed all of the people in attendance to gain further power-- at least for the time being.  This piece gained this power, of course, immortally, as in it will never run out.  When we got the piece, we had an agenda of our own.  We blasted this piece full of white light power, recreating the piece entirely.  Now, instead of something grimly dark, you have something that is satisfyingly dual in nature.  It can perform any kind of magic that you want it to-- whether dark or light-- and you don't need this magic to sustain your own well being.  This piece has been known to do things like exact revenge upon your enemies, bring true love, bring wealth, bring good luck, summon entities, and more.  I'm sure the list goes on and on forever, so you will have to really experiment with your piece once you get it!
