Buddha is described as having some pretty extraordinary abilities. These are usually called iddhi (psychic or supernatural powers) in Pali, or sometimes grouped under the “six higher knowledges” abhiññā. They’re not presented as magic tricks or ego boosts, they’re seen as natural byproducts of extremely deep meditation, mental purity, and full awakening.

These are just a few of the things that Buddha can do but it’s not the entire list. The Buddha you’re looking at are not the same ones on Hauntedcuriosities. Those are those and these are these. They do not do the same thing. So here is part of the list.

He could multiply his body into many forms, make himself invisible, walk through solid objects like walls or mountains, dive into the earth like it was water, walk on water, fly through the air, or even touch the sun and moon with his hand. (Yeah, the texts get wild with this stuff.)

Clairaudience—he could hear sounds from incredibly far away, human or divine. Lindy has tested this part. It works so well.

Telepathy—he could read other people’s minds and know exactly what they were thinking.

He could remember his own past lives in vivid detail, and see other beings dying and being reborn according to their karma the “divine eye”.

And the big one, perfect insight into the ending of all suffering, which is enlightenment itself.

There’s also the famous “Twin Miracle” at Sāvatthī, where he reportedly emitted fire from the upper half of his body and water from the lower half and vice versa, all while levitating. It’s one of the most dramatic stories, and it supposedly convinced a lot of skeptics.

But here’s the part that makes the Buddha’s attitude really interesting, he was actually pretty reluctant to show off these powers. In one well-known sutta (the Kevaddha Sutta), someone asks him to let a monk perform a big miracle to impress people and grow the community. The Buddha basically says there are three kinds of miracles, psychic powers, mind-reading, and the miracle of instruction—teaching the path to liberation. He calls the teaching miracle the only one truly worth anything, because flashy powers might wow people temporarily, but they don’t lead to lasting freedom. When you think about it, he’s right. To be liberated is to truly be free of the body and all it stops you from doing. This includes invisibility, walking through walls, healing the sick and making things appear.

He even made a rule for his monks, don’t display supernatural powers to laypeople unless it’s absolutely necessary, because it can create dependency on spectacle instead of genuine practice. Now, thinking about the Monks, how did they get all those powers? They had to learn just like you and I. Some people are born with things, I was but I wasn’t born with everything! I can’t see your aura but my daughter can.

So in the tradition, these abilities aren’t the point of Buddhism at all their side effects. The real “superpower” the Buddha emphasized was wisdom, compassion, and complete liberation from greed, hatred, and delusion. Some are hard to get away from but you can do it. The one thing I can tell you is the greedy person will never achieve any if these powers. You can get rich but you must not be greedy.

I only have three of these. They are for men or women. I’m not being mean here but don’t buy these if you are unusual. What I mean is you can’t be a they, them or we kind of person. It won’t work. You have to clean yourself up first and get right in the head. Again, I’m not being mean but if you buy it and it doesn’t work you will be upset. I will always put this notice on items if it won’t work for your type. For example if it’s only for women I will tell you that too, etc.

You get one gemstone Buddha.
